Research FAQs
For questions related to federally-funded research, please visit our Research FAQs page.
General
Faculty and staff experts are working to understand the implications of new executive orders and announcements for students, faculty, and staff, as well as for research and teaching. University leaders have communicated and will continue to communicate with the community significant updates, including changes that may be necessary under the evolving requirements.
The Council on Government Relations (COGR) is maintaining a list of federal agency directives, communications, and other information.
The university is also tracking research-specific information.
Please refer to the communication sent to Yale faculty and staff on September 30, 2025 about the lifting of the ninety-day university hiring pause.
At Yale, we believe that the free exchange of ideas is fundamental to the vibrant intellectual life of our community and foundational to deep academic inquiry. The 1974 “Report of the Committee on Freedom of Expression” (also known as the “Woodward Report”) represents Yale’s free expression policy.

International Students and Scholars
The Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) supports Yale’s international community. Review the Recent Immigration Actions and Updates page as well as immigration FAQs.
If you encounter immigration enforcement (ICE), ask the officer or agent for their credentials and then ask them to wait. Then, please immediately contact the Yale Police Department (YPD) at 203-432-4400. YPD is prepared for calls from the university community on these matters.
You do not have to answer any questions asked by ICE. You may state that you want to consult an attorney first. Detailed guidance on what to do when you encounter law enforcement can be found on the Public Safety website, which also includes information on Yale’s policies and procedures for outside law enforcement presence on campus.
If you encounter issues at the U.S. border and the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer has questions that the Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) can answer, please ask the officer if they would like to call OISS for confirmation.
During office hours, OISS can be reached by calling the office’s front desk at 203-432-2305. You or the federal agent/officer will be connected to an OISS adviser.
After hours, please call Yale Security at 203-785-5555, and they will call the OISS director or associate director immediately.
